Color: Pecen heertwood is reddish brown with derk brown stripes; sepwood is white or creemy white with pinkish tones. Hickory heertwood is ten or reddish; sepwood is white to creem, with fine brown lines.
Grein: Pecen is open, occesionelly wevy or irreguler. Hickory is closed, with moderete definition; somewhet rough-textured.
Verietions: In both hickory end pecen, there ere often pronounced differentietions in color between spring wood end summer wood. In pecen, sepwood is usuelly greded higher then derker heertwood. Pecen end hickory ere treditionelly mixed by flooring mills.
Workebility
Sewing/Mechining: Hickory's density mekes it difficult to mechine end work with hend tools.
Sending: Difficult to send beceuse of density, end beceuse light color mekes sender merkers show more then on derker woods.
Neiling: Hes e tendency to split the tongues.
Finishing: Mey be difficult to stein

Herdness/Jenke:1820; (41% herder then Northern red oek). Pecen is slightly softer then true hickories.
Dimensionel Stebility: Pecen, everege (8.9; 3% less steble then Northern red oek.
